The IBEW System Council T6 New England, CWA District 1/IBEW Local 2213 New York Regional Negotiating Committees spent Tuesday and Wednesday in New York . Off-the-record discussions continued this week with Verizon on call sharing and job security issues. Your Union Bargaining team is working hard and is committed to finding ways to address both the concerns of the Company and the needs of our members in this round of negotiations. Make NO MISTAKE, despite these talks, we are no closer to a contract than we were in the beginning of negotiations. The Company continues to have only one goal: givebacks. The company’s agenda continues to include retrogressive demands across virtually every area of our contracts from job security to pensions to Health Care and work rules. The Company has no interest in any of the Union’s issues. The unions will return next week to continue discussions.
Every member needs to remain vigilant and be conscious of the fact that your employer has insisted on negotiating away any protections of job security and increasing contracting out of jobs, in addition to the unconscionable proposals increasing healthcare costs and eliminating pensions. What the company is insisting is that you will not have a job. This is very serious, as Verizon believes the union members will accept anything because they are not united in the workforce. It is up to each and every member to get with it and realize you must show solidarity and strength in the workplace and show the company we are together. Too many people are up management’s ass and this is unacceptable. Come to work, do a great job and service our customers, follow all rules and procedures, and that’s it. No parties, no fanfare, and become active in your union and our plans to pressure the Company until a fair contract is won.
